KBS Shafts and PURE Team Up!

Hello PURE grippers, I hope this Holiday season finds you well and maybe enjoying the sun in a warm locale, or at least sneaking in some cold-weather golf in between snow storms. We are busy at PURE grips HQ putting the finishing touches on some new colors for our rubber assortment, and preparing for the start of 2012.   2011 was a banner year for us, but we are even more excited for 2012.   One of the major reasons we are excited for next year is the continuing development of partnerships with other golf companies with a similar vision and pursuit of excellence in  manufacturing golf equipment.   One of these partners we are very proud to associate with is KBS shafts.

A couple of years ago I was just getting into the golf industry, and I was admittedly ignorant to the exploding number of custom component options that existed in the golf equipment industry.  When our PGA Tour rep, Mike Biviano, suggested trying out some new shafts from KBS, I was open to some new gear, but I did not expect to notice any difference from the top-brand steel shafts I already had.   I remember my awakening distinctly!  I was playing at Caledonia Golf Club in South Carolina, on a brisk morning in February.  There was no warm-up time in the cards for me this morning, straight to the tee after about 40 minutes in the car, with low expectations and high hopes for a memorable round.

I managed to skank my drive down the right side of the fairway, struck at least a few grooves down on the club face, my low squirting cut managed to roll into 9 iron range in the right side of the fairway.   With a tight and damp lie, and no warm-up session, I was hoping for no more than solid contact.  When the shot came of the club face I experienced a very noticeable difference in the feel of the strike.   I can only describe it as a solid pop at impact, much more crisp than I was used to.  It is difficult to explain the contradiction of s solid, yet soft, muted, yet explosive feeling, but this is exactly how I am forced to describe the feeling of a solidly struck iron with my KBS Tour shafts in play.  My 9 iron flew high and straight to the middle of the green, leaving me a 15 footer for birdie.  I remember noting the crisp feeling and wondering if it was really the shaft, or just one of those rare ultra-pure strikes that happen once in a blue moon.  So, on the following holes I was very aware of the feel of my iron shots, and I was amazed to find that the solid pop continued.  Some more solid feeling than others, thanks to my intense lack of skill, but each time I hit an iron that day I grew more impressed with the difference these new shafts made.   I was hooked!

Those original shafts were in a set of Mizuno MP 57 irons, but I have since played the same stiff KBS Tour shafts in two different sets of Miura irons, some special blades and some CB 501s.   All of these irons are known for some of the most buttery-soft forging in the world, but they all benefit from the unique attributes of my KBS shafts.   I have been noticing that I am not alone in my new love of KBS shafts, it seems that every week I see more and more of those striking red shaft stickers on my TV when I watch the professionals tee it up.   The KBS performance on the major tours in 2011 speaks for itself, and with their newest C-Taper shafts generating even more interest among the top players, it looks like the KBS guys are probably pretty excited for 2012 as well.

So, head over to the KBS website and check out the story, with design wizard Kim Braly and a history of shaft building excellence, it is no wonder the product is so remarkable.  While you are there, check out the history of Kim Braly’s shaft designs and the KBS results from the PGA Tour, and  look out for the KBS guys to give away some sweet KBS logoed PURE grips in a host of beautiful colors.   Best of all, sign up to win this set of KBS Tour 90 shafts, and maybe you will be lucky enough to feel for yourself  the incredible pop of a perfectly struck golf shot generated by some KBS shafts!  I wish you luck, I am fully sold on the performance of KBS shafts, and I recommend them to you.
